How the KIU Western Campus Mr and Miss Pharmacy Contest Went Down

KIU, Western Campus - Kampala International University Pharmacy Students' Association (KIUPSA), in conjunction with Jupiter Events organized the 2nd edition of the Mr. and Miss Pharmacy Contest, which took place recently at Belline Hotel in Bushenyi District.

The event kicked off at 7pm and hosted over 600 attendees who immensely enjoyed the contests including performances from students, dance groups and Liam Voice, who was the surprise artiste.

The crowd was kept on their feet for their entire event, which ended at 4 am, when the judges finally announced the respective winners.

It was aimed at increasing the awareness of the entire community about the pharmacy profession while at the same time promoting talent, strengthening unity and togetherness among Pharmacy students and the entire community.

According to Michael Daniel Funda, the President of KIUPSA, this was no ordinary event.

“In this contest, we weren’t looking for whether one has a nice shirt, figure, dress, or beauty of the face but one with ideals of Pharmacy as a Mr. and Miss not only academically but also socially, talent-wise and having the ability to take up community service,” Funda said.

The contest garnered the interest of a total of 6 contestants for Miss Pharmacy and Mr. Pharmacy including; Miria Kyomugisha, Sheilla Tibikoma, Dorothy Auma and Claire Ninsiima who vied for the female crown.

The male contestants were Jason Mundanya and Innocent Mucunguzi.

All the contestants were judged basing on communication skills, personal character, talent presentations, speech, knowledge in Pharmacy and students' affairs as well as community Service ideals.

At the end of the long but exciting night, Claire Ninsiima was crowned Miss Pharmacy, Dorothy Auma Ongebo the 1st Runners up and Miria Kyomugisha as the 2nd Runners up.

Jason Mudanya emerged as Mr. Pharmacy while Innocent Mucunguzi was the runner up.

The entire contest excited revelers, who were reluctant to leave even after the final results were announced and some stayed behind to dance the rest of the night away.

To top it all off for the winners, they met and got a photo opportunity with the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor for KIU Western Campus Prof. Frank Mugisha Kaharuza while presenting to him their respective awards at the university.
